Pintor Señor Esquina

Welcome to Pintor Señor Esquina's "About Us" page. Learn more about my passion, inspiration and unique approach to art. I am dedicated to creating paintings that capture the light of life and reflect the soul.

My Story

I often sit hunched over, completely immersed in my element. My hands carry the paint, the brushes dance across the canvas. I live for creation and each painting is a child of my soul. From life and nature a draw my inspiration. All my artworks carry Spanish names, in order to show my love for Spain.

My name, "Pintor Señor Esquina," means Mister Hoek, a reference to my Dutch roots and surname Hoekstra. Born in 1970 in Driebergen-Rijsenburg, the Netherlands, it's both a playful nod to my character and a sign of my unique perspective on the world.

I live and work in beautiful Sitges, Catalonia. My distribution is located in Amsterdam.

Inspiration And influences

In the streets of Sitges, Spain, where sunlight reflects off the whitewashed buildings and the Mediterranean Sea stretches endlessly to the horizon, I have found my home and my voice. Known for my vibrant acrylic paint and expressive use of light, I paint with a quiet intensity, focusing on how color, shadow, and atmosphere can convey emotion.

My influences are broad and diverse: Bauhaus, Joaquín Sorolla’s mastery of sunlight and water, Monet, Van Gogh, Miró, Kandinsky, Picasso and Hokusai. Yet my work remains unique, characterized by directness, clarity, and warmth.

My Process

Is methodical yet flexible. I prefer acrylic paint for its vibrant colors, allowing me to capture fleeting moments of light and mood. I work in my hillside studio overlooking the sea, often starting the day with sketches or color research and gradually developing larger compositions. There's a rhythm to my work, a balance between planning and spontaneity. Sometimes I let a piece sit for weeks, returning to it later with fresh insights. Besides my paintings, I write mainly in Dutch stories and love to take still-life photographs, and design showcases for websites. I also worked for many years in the Dutch Museum Industry and as a visual merchandiser.

"Pintar es La Luz de la Vida, delicado como El Vidrio,   y al mismo tiempo Espejos Del Alma que reflejan lo invisible."
